What are Reactive Repairs?
Call-Out, breakdown maintenance and reactive repair are all terms used to describe a repair service which caters for an emergency call out necessitated by equipment break down.
At CGE, Reactive Repair call-out is only offered as an integral part of our broader Planned Maintenance, Remedial Repair and Compliance Testing Contracts. It is not offered as a standalone service. There are many reasons why this is the case.
At CGE we believe that a Reactive Repair Service forms an integral part of a structured Planned Maintenance Programme especially for certain categories of business. An example would be in the hospitality, restaurant or Pub Trade where a breakdown would cause premises to be closed with untold repercussions especially if a booked event had to be cancelled.
How Can CGE Help?
Reactive Repair focuses on restoring the broken down equipment to its normal working condition by replacing or repairing faulty components.
We at CGE achieve this by running a fleet of modern, fully stocked vans, with the most common materials history has shown us we use on breakdown situations. This stock is managed by our back office system, and auto replenished when utilised, leaving our field staff to concentrate on doing what they do best, which is getting your business up and running as promptly as possible.
As a general rule, reactive repairs should only be performed when:
- Components are inexpensive, readily available and easy to replace
- The failed or damaged component does not cause wider collateral damage to the electrical system
- The cost of reactive repair is not greater than that of preventative maintenance.
As equipment failures are unpredictable additional costs may be incurred through travel time, out of hours labour and support plus spare parts may not be readily available. In general, maintenance plans that are totally reliant on reactive repair as their only strategy are the most expensive.
By implementing effective Planned Preventative Maintenance, the occurrence of unscheduled reactive breakdowns and call-outs will decline as the general ‘health’ of the electrical system improves.
